The stars came out in droves and Backstage360 was proud to have covered the first awards ceremony for the history of heavy metal. CEO / Founder Pat Gesualdo brimmed with enthusiasm as he expounded the virtues of this (his) new organization and it was rousing to hear. Pat is doing a great thing for Metal and for the Ronnie James Dio “Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund” which Wendy Dio spoke about vibrantly and passionately about. The awards kicked off with several shout outs going out to the brothers in metal we have lost over the years. Lemmy Killmeister was one of those and the award was accepted by his long time drummer, Mickey Dee. His stories and memories of Lemmy were heartfelt during the acceptance speech. Ronnie James Dio also won an award and it was accepted by his wife Wendy. Starting the evening with those two icons was truly fitting. Randy Rhoads also won an award which was accepted by his brother and sister.
Next up was the founder of Sabian Cymbals, Andy Zildjan, who has been involved in the industry for decades and is truly an industry standard. Both Fankie Banali and Rudy Sarzo accepted awards as part of the iconic metal band Quiet Riot. Scorpions received an award which was accepted by their current drummer Mickey Dee.
These are all bands that I have loved for years and also included RosstheBoss. (Ross Friedman), Dio’s Disciples, Budderside which were signed by Lemmy’s Label Motorhead Music were all on hand and, put on an amazing show.
My favorite was watching my good friend Marc Lopes who is now the lead singer for Ross The Boss just kiilled it on the iconic Manowar songs which of course were written by Ross Freidman lead guitar player for the band.
All an all it was an exciting night had by all and , we hear at Backstage360 are truly excited to have been included in the event.
Stay tuned for more news coming soon about upcoming award shows for The Hall of Heavy Metals.
