I was excited to see another great show at the Diamond Ballroom in Oklahoma City. Tonight was the night for “Blackberry Smoke”; a band from Atlanta, Georgia formed in 2004. So far the band has released six records and built up a strong fan base which showed up tonight at the Diamond Ballroom for an incredible show.
The entertainment started out with the opening band “The Record Company” from Los Angeles, California. The band consists of three band members which are Chris Vos (vocals, guitar, lap steel, harmonica), Marc Cazorla (drums, vocals) and Alex Stiff (bass, vocals). Tonight they played a variety of songs from their 2016 album, which was also nominated for a Grammy for the best contemporary Blues Album in 2017 “ Give it back to you“. The songs performed were “On the Move”, Hard Day Coming Down”, “Rita Mae Young”, “Give It Back to You”, “Turn Me Loose”, “Don’t Let Me Get Lonely”, “Off The Ground” and “This Crooked City”. Another great song they played was the cover song from the Beastie Boys called “So What’cha Want”. It was a great way of getting the crowd fired up for the main act tonight and we all were well entertained. These guys are good and if you get the chance make sure you go and see them.

As the audience was getting more and more impatient, the moment finally had arrived. Blackberry Smoke took the stage. The fans greeted the band members Charlie Starr (vocals, guitar), Paul Jackson (vocals, guitar), Richard Turner (vocals, bass), Brit Turner (drums), and Brandon Still (keyboards), with cheering and applause. It couldn’t have been a more welcoming moment for them. The band had a great set list including songs off their 2012 album “The Whippoorwill” which featured some of their hits played tonight, “Six Ways to Sunday”, “Pretty Little Lie”, “Lucky Seven”, “Ain’t Got The Blues”, “The Whippoorwill” and “One Horse Town”. Another album Blackberry Smoke performed songs from was the 2016 release “Like an Arrow”. Not to forget the latest 2018 release “Find a Light”. Some of the songs off this album that we got to hear tonight were “Best Seat In The House”, “Run Away From It All”, “Till The Wheels Fall Off” and “I’ll Keep Ramblin”. One of the highlights of this evening was when the tunes “You Got Lucky” and “Listen To Her Heart” were played. Those are both Tom Petty songs and it was the perfect moment to honor his memory and for the anniversary of the legendary singer and song writer’s death. “Blackberry Smoke” has been in the music business for almost 20 Years and as you can imagine they are a well-established Country rock / Southern rock / blues rock jam band with a large fan base. Keep your eyes and ears open for their brand new album. It will be released on November 15th and I already know it will be a total hit, just like their other albums are.
