Bash Fest is an event that began when NAMM kicked off and continued on through January 20th, where the Bonzo Bash was about to happen. It all takes place at the old-school Yost Theatre in downtown Santa Ana. What’s Bonzo Bash you ask? Well…it’s only a tribute to one of the world’s best drummers, Led Zeppelin’s own John Bonham! Yeah, an entire night dedicated to the music of one of the most influential rock bands in the world. Epic…and it all kicked off with a badass guitar solo and the drummer from the first night, Brian Tichy who was ever-present throughout the night.
Before that, we were treated to an acoustic performance featuring three beautiful members of Paradise Kitty. (An all-Girl Guns N’ Roses Tribute Band) There was some very impressive guitar licks, making quick work of that acoustic guitar while the vocals bellowed out some beautiful melodies.
Then it began, the house band for the Bonzo Bash changed time signatures and key during the massive opening guitar solo and a frenzy of fantastic drummer’s flew on and off the stage throughout the whole night.

Lez Warner (The Cult), Johnny Dee (Britny Fox), Stephen Perkins (Janes Addiction), Simon Wright (Dio and more), Rachel Rine (Paradise Kitty), then…the one and only, Carmine Appice (Vanille Fudge)! That’s quite a lineup, but it didn’t stop there. Carmine Appice told stories and played a part in dedicating the show to the memory of Alphonse Mouzon, then back to the music with Carmine on the sticks! More and more drummers took the stage, and you can check out the pics for yourself, but the star of the show was this 13-year-old badass named Logan “Robot” Gladden. Thirteen years of age and this kid has the intensity and focus of someone twice his age and the discipline of someone three times his age! Amazing performance followed by a wicked drum solo! Rightfully so, he banged the gong and took a bow.
More and more musicians shared the stage for this night of dedication to music and musicianship. The display was phenomenal and intense as we were all blown away that night. The stars came out and there were many more than I could even mention, celebrating percussionists and musicians alike after a day of NAMM!
