I came to KAABOO early on Saturday, day two of the non-festival mixperience, just to see this guy…Bryce Fox. The Indiana transplant to Los Angeles had some buzz around him leading up to his first festival performance and, spoiler alert…he killed it with a bittersweet moment on stage. The mid-westerner moved here to follow his dream of being a solo artist, and one of his group members was leaving the band after this inaugural performance. There didn’t to appear to be any animosity as the band owned the stage this early afternoon.
Performing on the biggest stage at the event, Bryce admitted to this being his first ever festival, but didn’t show any signs that he was nervous. I guess working with nearly a dozen or more artists before going out on your own could help with those jitters, this rocker has lent his piercing voice to everyone from EDM to pop. And with a set of pipes like that, I don’t blame him! I say piercing and I mean that as soul piercing…Bryce’s voice goes right into you like a painful spear, yet, for some reason, you’re REALLY enjoying that pain!
His style of music reminds me of The Black Keys meets X Ambassadors, it’s a heavy rock with use of synth pads and some voice-manipulators as he creates a unique sound to support his soulful voice perfectly. Tracks like “Voodoo” and “Horns” are two of his heaviest tracks and they kept the crowd moving. Daniel Weber, the man Bryce started this project with after moving from Indiana, could be seen handling the electronics close to backstage, banding on a synth bad and providing deep electronic voice during many of the tracks. His first single “Burn Fast” may have only been released a few months ago, but this guy has a following and some major street cred behind him and is making waves with his newest tracks. His EP will available soon, but as of this writing it isn’t out yet…and I am anxiously waiting for this album to drop.
