The younger set came out in force at KAABOO this year to support Indie-Rock stars Cold War Kids. The band did not disappoint. Starting off the concert with 2014’s release “All this could be yours” from the album Hold my Home, gave the audience a chance to pump their fist and chant the repetitious chorus lines along with the band. Moving into the album Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, they start the up-beat song “Miracle Mile”. The band was full of energy and knew how to keep the crowd engaged. They proceeded to play “Louder than ever” into the song entitled “Can we hang on”, which put the crowd into a mellower mood.
The band was very impressive throughout the night, especially with the member’s abilities to switch instruments. These are some very talented individuals and it shows. The songs all had a very unique feel and groove to them and the remaining songs proved that Cold War Kids were here to stay. From “Hot Coals” to “Hang me out to Dry” the band kept your attention and they flowed from song to song, all the while, showing their dominance and control of your senses. The music was performed well and the bands ability to control the ambiance was uncanny. The night continued with “Jailbirds”, “We used to Vacation”, “Audience” and then the very cool “Royal Blue” which grabbed you immediately with the drums setting the coolest groove. Most of the songs were very contagious and had everyone moving to the fabulous rhythms. The songs are intelligently written and had many important messages for the listener to deliberate. The first song I recognized was the song “First” which got everyone singing and pumping their fist in the air. I loved the whole feel of the atmosphere during that song. You could sense it was a crowd favorite. The band played four more songs ending with the up tempo song “Something is not Right with Me”. Cold War Kids rocked KAABOO and they left us wanting more. If you’ve never heard of them and you love meaningful lyrics with catchy hooks, check these guys out.
