As the members of Collective Soul took the stage you could feel the electricity in the air. The crowd was screaming with excitement when they kicked it off with “Heavy” a Monster Riff driven song from the 1999 album Dosage. Keep the heavy power chords coming and start into the song “Why PT.2” from 2000’s album Blender which led nicely into “Better Now” which is from the Youth album circa 2004. All three opening songs had the crowd on their feet and Rocking. Why slow down now, instantly the guitar kicks into the rocking riff driven song “Contagious” which had the same power behind it as the opening song “Heavy”. Ed Roland (Vocals) was never far from his microphone stand which he straddled, spun, tossed and held like a veteran front man would. The band continued with a more subdued song “AYTA” from See What You Started by Continuing. Time to wake the audience with one of their Big Hits “Shine” from 1993’s album Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid, an amazing song which came across extremely well live. The crowd was singing the chorus along with Roland throughout the entire song, it was great fun.
Time for a little break with the song “All our Pieces” which was short lived once they Jumped into the distorted guitar intro of “Precious Declaration” and started rocking harder which seemed second nature for these musicians; what a killer guitar sound. Now let’s jump to the year 1995 and the brilliant song “December” from the album Collective Soul. What makes a great song? Just listen to this songs groove and lyrical content, brilliant! The crowd was going crazy with excitement and then the guys kicked it into high gear with another Hit “Gel” from the same album as “December”. “Gel” is another hard driving song that uses some heavy distorted guitar to get its point across. About this time you begin to realize that these guys write some pretty rocking tunes. What an amazing band and what an amazing time we are all having. How about another great song from the 1995 album Collective Soul, “Where the River Flows” kept the crowd in high gear, I don’t think the crowd ever had a chance to relax. Closing the show was the song “World I Know” also from the album Collective Soul. This is another brilliant song filled with great changes and great lyrics. What a way to end an amazing concert. This was just plain awesome.
