Colt Ford – Crank it Up

Cade Roth Band

After a long week of work and taking my daughter to band camp every evening, I was ready for some fun and relaxation. Knowing we had another show at the Legends Event Park in Chickasha OK, I was excited to get the evening started. The Legends Event Park is a great place to hang out with friends while enjoying a great show, having some drinks and food from the vendors. Go and check out the Legends event park’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LegendsEventPark/

One thing I really noticed and like, is that Fred (the promoter) supports the local music scene. He has not done one show without inserting local bands to open up the head liners at his Legend events. The show started with Cade Roth And The Blacksheep, a Folk/ Rock/ Americana band from southwest Oklahoma. These guys harmonize nicely together and besides great vocals and acoustic guitar you also get the added enjoyment of Cade Roth (Lead Vocalist) playing harmonica and guitar together, reminiscent of Bob Dylan. They have just released a new five song EP at the end of June named “74th St. Session” and we got treated to two of the five songs “Wichita Wild Rose” and “What’s left of me now” tonight. Overall, the band’s music was easy on the palate and I would recommend searching out their music on I-Tunes, Spotify, YouTube and any other social media outlets you may use.

Charlie Farley

The evening continued with Charlie Farley. Charlie is a musician from Arkansas who besides music loves fishing and hunting. His musical style is Rap/Country/Rock and I personally thought it was awesome. I am not so much into the country music but I totally dig his style. The balance between Rap, Country and Rock is just right and his fiery performance gets you up off your seat and puts you in the show. Colt introduced a guest singer Cody Davis to help sing the song “Concrete Dreams”, which went over very well and the two singers complimented each other beautifully. The band closed their set with a bang, playing Kid Rocks “Bawitdaba”. I would have liked to write a little more about the songs that were played tonight but I never received the set list for tonight’s show.

Last but not least it was time for Colt Ford who has charted six times on the Hot Country Songs charts. Colt Ford, whose birth name is Jason Farris Brown has and is still making his career in country rap. He released six albums which he co-founded and even was nominated for the Academy of Country Music Award in 2011. This retired professional golfer did the right thing when he decided to retire his golf clubs and make music his new career.

Colt Ford

With the American flag hanging down his microphone stand, Colt opened up the show with the song “Dynamite” followed by “Crank It Up” and “Answer To No One”. It was so interesting to have this cowboy looking country guy performing rap but that made the show just so much better.  After a great start and listening to a few songs the band went in to a wonderful medley made up of “Waste Some Time”, “Cricket On A Line”, “Huntin The World” and ending with “This Is Our Song”. Time flew by listening to all of the different songs and the show ended fittingly with the song “Time Flies”.  Just looking around it was evident that everybody enjoyed the country/rap mix style of music. No one wanted to go home yet and by the applause and cheering of the crowd it was obvious to the band that they wanted more. Hell, the band even gave us another medley starting with “Satch Boogie” and ending with “Can’t you see”. At the end of the night we got an amazing encore; the band finished the night off with Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy”, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Gimme Three Steps” and Brantley Gilbert’s song “Dirt Road Anthem” which actually featured Colt Ford on the recorded version. The highlight of Colts show was when he played “We The People” which is his latest single, released May 10th. All in all it was a super entertaining evening and like Colts song said Time Flies.
