Confederate Railroad – Solid Southern Rock

Billy Davis and the Band Brothers

I was so excited knowing that today was the day Legends Event Park in Chickasha Oklahoma was kicking off their summer concerts. I personally love the simplicity of the venue. You have a bar, a seating area where you can bring your own chairs or stand, food trucks are along the side of the seating area and the stage is easily seen and heard from wherever you plant yourself down. What else do you need for a great, fun evening and not to forget the staff is amazing and super helpful in every single way.

The show started out with a local opening Band called Billy Davis & the Band of Brothers. The Three band members are Noah – bass, Reagan – drums and Billy – lead vocals and guitar. Their first song was a cover from Chris Stapleton called “Midnight Train To Memphis”. They had my fullest attention the second they started performing. Billy has great vocals and the three brothers perform well and have great stage presence. Another song the band performed was “Old Jim” which is their first song they released as a single this year. To help support the band, make sure you go online and download the single, I am sure you will not just like it but love it.

The next band called “First Look Music” was also a local band from Chickasha performing to get the crowd ready for Confederate Railroad to make their appearance on stage. The right mood was set and the atmosphere was perfect.

It was finally time for Confederate Railroad to take stage. Confederate Railroad is a southern rock – country band from Marietta, Georgia and it was founded in 1987. The current members of the band are Danny Shirley lead vocalist/rhythm guitar, Mark Dufrense – drums, Rusty Hendrix – lead guitar/backing vocals, Joey Recker – Keyboard/backing vocals, Mo Thaxton – guitar/vocals.

Confederate Railroad

The band has released six studio albums which the newest one, released in 2016 is called Lucky To Be Alive. Starting out with “Fast Cars, Guitars and Fine Tuned Women”, the show was off to a great start. Then we got taken back to the 80’s when Danny and Mark worked for the great Johnny Paycheck after Johnny got released from jail and that’s how the song 11 Months & 29 Days was created.  Followed by “Time off of Bad Behavior” and “Jesus And Mama“ it was time for another story. Danny talked about Wayne (former bass player who sadly had passed away in 2018, after a long illness) and how he had spent a lot of time with him before he had passed away. One of Wayne’s hits “Ladies Love Outlaws” was used for the sound track of the Mel Gibson movie Maverick. Wayne had later on asked Danny to redo the song which turned in to another gold record of Confederate Railroad. This evening we were not just entertained by great music, but also had great story’s that came along with the show and if you didn’t know anything about the band, by the time you left after the show it felt like you knew them your whole life. The evening continued with Danny introducing another great song “White Trash with Money” and telling us when he and his ex-wife moved in to a new neighborhood, the community had a meeting because they were concerned about the hillbillies moving in. One of the neighbors came to Danny and told him about it and instead of getting upset Danny turned the other cheek and decided to write a song for this specific neighbor. What a great way to deal with life and another fun fact is Toby Keith who also lived in this neighborhood later on named one of his albums after this song. Another great song performed by the band was “The Man I Am Today” and “She Never Cried”, which was written thinking about his ex-wife and the other song, was written thinking about his ex-girlfriend. Playing other songs like “Laundromat Bar and Grill” and “Notorious” I must say it was a great fun filled and very entertaining evening. If you love southern rock then this band is the one you for sure want to see and check out.
