Funk-rock musician Dan Reed steps out of his comfort-zone and hits the curve ball with ‘Fight Another Day.’ The Dan Reed Network (1) has been around since the 1980’s, hailing from the smooth-jazz style #1 hit “Steal Me”, but that might feel like eons ago compared to the hard rocking track “Divided” opening their 2016 return to the music scene with their 5th studio album, Fight Another Day.
Twenty-Five years in the making, a quick glance of their fan pages shows they’ve been missed, and this album shows they didn’t stop evolving. With complex chord structures and a central theme of anti-establishment, this album is well thought out and incorporates many aspects of co-founder Dan Reed’s funky styling with solid rock tones throughout the entire album.
Marrying a post-modern and industrial sound in “The Brave,” Dan Reed hides some beautiful synth sounds in the background, but don’t worry, there’s more to come. Continuing with the anti-establishment theme, “Infected” gives a taste of early Dan Reed Network with a nice funky bass line and some beautiful guitar work.
“Champion” mixes a bit of the industrial rock feel with some classic synth and screaming guitar in a love song that stays with the theme of the album. The Dan Reed Network incorporates styles from all different genres, providing a wide range of east to listen to tracks throughout the rest of the album.
The entire album is easy to listen to, and even easier to rock out to, with a few tracks that could be mainstream AOR hits, a few that could be on the Adult Contemporary charts, this album carries a mix of the best of the 80’s an 90’s with an updated Dan Reed Network sound all bundled into a well produced package for the lovers of Melodic Rock and AOR style music.
