DARKWELL was born in early 1999, with the aim and motivation to create vivid and profound gothic metal. All band members are experienced musicians, and they know well how to add liveliness to their music, which results in strong compositions and mature arrangements. In 1999, DARKWELL signed a record deal with the Austrian label Napalm Records, and started recording the band’s debut album “Susperia” in March 2000. They matched fragile but also powerful female vocals with pounding guitars and driving bass lines. Soon after, the quintet went on tour with then label colleagues Tristania and The Sins Of Thy Beloved. This tour was crowned with success: They got booked for the German Wave-Gotik-Treffen, even before releasing their first record. Numerous shows and a tour with Graveworm and Vintersorg followed.
Eurorock, Skeleton Bash and 666-Festival. In 2003, DARKWELL parted ways with their vocalist Alexandra, as personal and musical difficulties occurred, and started to search for a new dark front-beauty.
Soon they discovered Stephanie M., who emphasized DARKWELL’s independent musical path even more. After a few rehearsals, Stephanie made her glorious live debut with the band at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen. She enchanted the audience with her energetic live show and bewitched everybody at the Summer Breeze 2003. In 2004, DARKWELL went on another headliner tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland! DARKWELLs album “Metatron” is a fusion of fire and night: It burns a warming afterglow in the heart of the listener. The strong and feminine voice is in the focus of the catchy compositions and is accompanied by rocking guitars, driving bass sounds and sophisticated drums. The release of the album followed a successful European tour with Atrocity and Leaves’ Eyes, as well as a headliner tour with Vanitas as support in 2005. They also played at a few festivals from 2005 to 2007. DARKWELL needed a break and put the band on indefinite hiatus due to personal reasons. In 2012, the band started thinking about returning. Soon it was clear that the band wanted to reunite with original singer Alexandra Pittracher, and both parties realized that the fire was still burning. DARKWELL was finally back with an official reunion show at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2014 in Leipzig, Germany. The band also went on a headliner-tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2004. 2015 was consumed by composing and recording, and now the new album is ready to be released. The “Moloch” was forged in the cold realm of Metropolis, will leave the cold machine halls on September 23, 2016 and will be released worldwide via Massacre Records. The music ransports the vision the band had for this album, but the concept will also be realized audio-visually with 2 video clips, which will be released around the album’s release date!
