Touring and doing over 150 shows a year, Foreigner just keeps on getting stronger. Backstage360 was proud to cover one of the most iconic bands in music history and as always, they did not disappoint.
The lineup today may be far different than the original but they are sounding as good as ever. Lead vocalist Kelly Hansen’s voice is amazing as always, his stage performance is electrifying. Bass Player Jeff Pilson (Dokken, Lynch Mob) who has been with the band since 2004, keeps the bottom end thundering and Bruce Watson (Lead Guitar) fills in quite nicely for the founder and the writer of most of the bands classic hits, Mr. Mick Jones. On Guitar, Sax, Piano, Organ, Backup vocals there’s Thom Gimbel, who’s extraordinary musicianship is just all out badass. Michael Bluestein (Keys – Vocals) has the experience of playing with some of the greatest artist in music history including Boz Scaggs and Stevie Nicks and leaves no doubt that he is a true monster player. On Drums, Chris Fraser is no stranger to big time music either. As one of LA session drummers he also has worked with many of the music industry’s icons.
With ten multi-platinum albums and sixteen Top 30 hits, Foreigner is universally hailed as one of the most popular rock acts in the world with a formidable musical arsenal that continues to propel sold-out tours and album sales, now exceeding 75 million. Foreigner is responsible for some of rock and roll’s most enduring anthems including. “Juke Box Hero,” “Feels Like The First Time,” “Urgent,” “Head Games,” “Hot Blooded,” “Cold As Ice,” “Dirty White Boy,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You” and the worldwide #1 hit, “I Want To Know What Love Is,” They continue to rock the charts almost 40 years into the game and although we have seen Foreigner many times over the years and have friends within the band, these cats continue to impress me as the true icons that they are.
The writing and musical experience that was created by the iconic Mick Jones (Guitar, Piano, Vocals) is still evident to this day. When you have a catalog as extensive as he has, nothing more need be said.
This night was no exception they hit the stage and the sold out crowd leapt to their feet. They didn’t need seats as they stayed that way for the entire show. The crowd was into it from the onset being urged by Kelly to sing along to every song and hit after hit, that’s exactly what they did.
