It just wouldn’t be Christmas if Gary Hoey wasn’t running amok around the U.S. entertaining us with his Ho Ho Hoey tour! Now in its 22nd year, Gary Hoey and his band continues to make the season bright! On December 15th, his sleigh made a stop at the infamous, Coach House in San Juan Capistrano and my season was made brighter for the 7th year in a row!
Boston born, guitar virtuoso, Gary Hoey, keeps proving that age is only a number and Gary is like a fine wine! The man is nothing short of an extraordinarily gracious guitar god with the energy and creativity of the tiny tots of Whoville. Just sit in the audience listen to his instrumental rendition of, “You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch” and even the smallest of hearts will grow three sizes will grow that day.
With 20 albums, and two Top 20 Billboard hits; “Hocus Pocus” (peaking at #5 in 1993) and “Low Rider” (peaking at #15 in 1994) and in July of 2016, releasing his most current album, Dust & Bones, which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Blues chart and remained there for four weeks, Gary shows no intentions of slowing down.
Gary intentionally stepped out of his rock instrumental persona with Dust & Bones. It is a glorious collection of blues, rockabilly and classic rock as he celebrates several honored, musical icons from each genre. The BackStage360 team agreed that is was one of the Best of the Best released in 2016 and apparently his fans are in agreement, as well, based on his 95% approval rating over the interwebs!
Gary’s “Ho Ho Hoey” tour is a joyous evening of classic Christmas music, both traditional and contemporary and this year he kicked it a notch by sprinkling in tracks from Dust & Bones, topped with a personal story or two.
As I am assuming, based on its immense popularity, there will be a 23rd annual tour, so If you missed this holiday tradition in years past, make a point of looking for Gary to pop by your hometown during the last three weeks of 2018 and start your own tradition.
You can find Gary and his band on social media and most reputable music service sites. Keep up with current news, purchase CD’s and merchandise and find his current touring schedule on his website: www.garyhoey.com ; you can also purchase his music through online retailers.
