No Doubt came out and opened with “KEEP ON DANCING “and never looked back.
Through all the success that they have had, the band members have remained grounded by a long-standing friendship that began when Stefani, guitarist Tom Dumont, bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Adrian Young bonded by a shared love of ’80s British New Wave and SKA bands.
They began performing together in their hometown of Anaheim, CA. Their camaraderie, not to mention the musical alchemy that occurs when four friends reunite, is palpable throughout the band’s last album Push And Shove. A supercharged blend of SKA rock, dancehall, and electronic pop that reminds people why No Doubt has maintained its position as one of the most beloved and commercially successful acts of the past 20 years.
What follows is an epic performance at this year’s KAABOO festival. The band hit the stage and erupted from the very first note. For more than an hour and a half they went through all their hits.
Any one that has any doubts (No pun intended) about Gwen or her band should be put to rest by just going and seeing them in concert. It’s that energy that she puts out and the swagger that made her the icon she is. She’s in great form and her voice never sounded better. The iconic” I’m Just A Girl” is truly an ode to Gwen, it’s who she really is.
The band was amazing and tight throughout the show. They interacted with Gwen’s dancing, jumping and non-stop rocking. It worked the Del Mar crowd into a frenzy. At one point Gwen climbed half way up one of the towers. (at least 45 feet) She then implored the crowd to sign along with and yelled to the crowd “I’m risking my life up here for you now, help me sing this song.” She refused to come down until she was satisfied that the crowd was doing what she asked.
It was truly amazing to see the expressions on everyone’s face when she did that. All and all the whole show was jammed packed with NO DOUBTS iconic status as one of the best live acts in the business. If you haven’t seen them before, DO IT now. If you have seen them before catch them on this tour now. Gwen hasn’t lost a thing and she’s still the embodiment of “I’M JUST A GIRL”
