Wherever there is audio, you’re highly likely to find a Harman product. They have about 11 brands in their portfolio. Their legendary audio brands include AKG, Harman Kardon, Infinity, JBL Lexicon, Mark Levinson, Revel and Martin Lighting. Harman has a solid track record of innovation, which has distinguished Harman and its premium audio and infotainment brands for 70 years.
This year at NAMM Harman continues to be cutting edge with it’s NAMM Media Center and BackStage360 was grateful to be one of the groups selected to test out the center. What Harman offered us and other media outlets was a first class experience. Harman contacted NAMM with their ideas and prearranged a spot inside the convention. They transformed the space into a highly functional media center.
It felt similar to being in a VIP lounge at an airport. They offered us a comfortable place to do our interviews away from the crowds, noise and chaos of NAMM. We were able to demo their products. Harman brought in equipment, set up audio stations along with The JBL mobile studio truck that convention attendees could try out. They even had a hostess along with complimentary drinks and snacks for media and guests.
The JBL soundproof mobile truck was set up with stations where podcasters could try out the equipment. They were offering a Podcaster’s Bundle consisting of headset, microphone and software that you download, plug in and you are ready to go and you have professional grade audio.
When not at a tradeshow, the JBL truck is usually on the road being showing distributors and customers.
With 70 years under its belt and huge success Harman continues to grow with the times. Things are much different now than they were 20 or 30 years ago. Think to back then, if you had a band and you wanted to make a demo, you had to hustle 5 grand off your parents to hire an engineer and a studio. So Harman has figured out how to build gear that makes it easy to record and distribute your creations on YouTube and Spotify.
I spoke with David Glaubke, Head of Corporate Communications for Harman International at NAMM in The Harmon Media Center. The media center was a beta test and since everything went well, chances are they will be back to do it again next year even bigger. I for one certainly hope so. David and everyone at Harman were an absolute pleasure to work with.
