Every so often, a band emerges that reminds us why we fell in love with music in the first place. It’s not just about the sound but the energy, and the sense of possibility. Sugar Fix Band, a quintet of supremely talented teens who are putting their own spin on rock music.
If the name sounds familiar, you’re not imagining things. Olivia (Liv) and Ryder Beall, the band’s sister-brother duo, are the children of Chris Beall, a seasoned drummer (Warrant) whose band, Swerve, in 1996 released their Album/Song “Sugar Fix,” the band’s namesake. There’s a beautiful synergy in how their father’s musical journey has come full circle.
A Sleepover Sparks the Band
Like all great origin stories, Sugar Fix Band’s began in an unassuming way—at a sleepover party. Liv with her powerhouse vocals, Emma Marshall, the guitar-shredding social butterfly, Samantha Marshall (Sam), the steady and sharp forensic artist on bass, and Ryder, who grew up drumming along to life’s rhythms, decided to form a band just two years ago. What began as late-night conversations and shared dreams quickly turned into serious rehearsals and performances. Cannibal & The Headhunters
Cannibal & the Headhunters are an American rock band from East Los Angeles, California. They were one of the first Mexican-American groups to have a national hit record, “Land of a Thousand Dances”, recorded on the Rampart label. They were the opening act on The Beatles’ second American tour, backed up by the King Curtis band. They played at the historic Shea Stadium concert from August 15 to August 30, during the 1965 tour that was headlined by The Beatles.
After many years of playing drums in Cannibal and the Headhunters, Frankie “Cannibal” Garcia in 1983 decided to retire from the music business due to health issues and transferred ownership of the group’s name to Robert Zapata. Robert Zapata is the legal owner of the trademark (Cannibal and the Headhunters). Robert Zapata continues carrying on the legacy of Frankie Garcia’s group for over 50 years and still performing today. Cannibal and the Headhunters has performed with some of rock & roll’s best. Within a year of the group’s formation, Cannibal and the Headhunters were sharing the stage with “The Rolling Stones,” “The Beatles,” The Temptations, “King Curtis,” and many more. Today, Robert Zapata carries on the legacy of Frankie Garcia over many decades; the group still performs with all the best of the 60’s rock & roll groups and single artists – “Denny Laine” of Moody Blues, “Joey Mulland” of Badfinger, “Chuck Negron,” voice of Dog Night, “The Tokens,” “Dennis Tufano,” voice of the Buckinghams, “Little Anthony,” “Marilee Rush,” “Bobby Kimball” of ToTo, “Ben E. King” (“Stand By Me”), “Mary Wilson” of the Supremes. Robert Zapata has been playing drums for 58 years and still going strong.
The members of “Cannibal and the Headhunters” today are leader Robert Zapata (Drummer, vocals), Charlie Munoz (lead vocals), Billy Cormier (guitar, vocals), George Garcia (Bass guitar, vocals), Dave Goldstein (keyboards, vocals), Karl Carrasco (keyboards, vocals)…
