Back at the BOK Center in Tulsa Oklahoma it was a perfect Thursday night to rock out and looking around me people were dressed in their jeans, leather vests and boots. It was what I would call a typical rock scene.
Even though the show was not a sold out show, the atmosphere at the BOK center was awesome. Everybody was excited to be there to see Judas Priest and the opening bands.
The first opening act was BSR which stands for Black Star Riders and they got right to action on stage. I personally liked the band a lot because they had a very nice rock beat, not too much and not too little, and their music really got me and the audience going. By the time they were done with their performance, everybody in the arena was standing.
The next opening band was Saxon. Like I already said in a review I have written in the past about this amazing band when they had performed at the House of Blues in San Diego, in my eyes Saxon is one of the greatest bands in the rock scene. This band has not changed at all in all these years of performing and they never disappoint the audience because Saxon delivers every time with a high energy and much fun show. They are the perfect opening act for Judas Priest and looking around the BOK center and seeing the audience I think they very much so enjoyed the band too. Right now Saxon is promoting their new album Thunderbolt, so make sure you check it out. (Ed – Our review of Saxon can be found here: SAXON)
We all were warmed up for Judas Priest and patiently waited for them to take stage. When all of a sudden we heard the Sirens from Black Sabbath’s song “War Pigs” has it came screaming through the PA system which instantly grabbed the audience attention. When Ozzy’s lyrics started, the crowd began to sing along with the song, literally everybody sang along and that was the beginning of what appeared to be a very memorable Judas Priest show. The curtain fell and Judas Priest appeared ready to rock and take on all challengers to the Heavy Metal Throne.
The band started the show with the song Firepower and smoothly went over to the next song Running Wild. It was a very energetic opening and everybody instantly rocked along and enjoyed themselves. Not one person in the audience was sitting still, no matter where I looked, everybody was moving to the heavy tempo that the song inflicted on our senses. Next the band played the song Grinder followed by Sinner and then Ripper. The song Sinner really caught my attention with the guitar solo at the beginning and also there was a lot of fire on stage while the song was performed which added to the excitement I was experiencing. Rob Halford’s vocals were killing it and he still has a fantastic voice despite all the years of touring, he can go from extreme high notes to lower notes faster than you can blink, he rarely misses a note. Another song that was a great hit with the audience and which I also liked was Freewheel Burning. This song also had nice guitar solos and it once again amazed me what a great vocal range Halford has with him hitting the high notes at every attempt. Looking around me during the song Turbo, everybody was singing along and almost everybody had their hands up in the air clapping to the rhythm. This concert was so much fun and if you are into rock, you really would have loved it. The whole arena was having a blast just rocking out. The band continued their show with a lot of great songs like, Evil Never Dies, Another Thing Coming and Painkiller and then it was time for the evening to end.
The band had chosen to play Metal Gods, Breaking the Law and Living after Midnight for their encore. Breaking The Law was a huge hit and once again the audience was singing along and just rocking the evening away.
Judas Priest is a well-known band which has been in business for many Years. If you like heavy metal then I can only highly recommend for you to check them out. Download their music at itunes or get their CD or if they are in your area, go and buy a ticket for their show. I promise you will enjoy it.
