Lady Zep is an all female Led Zeppelin tribute band based in Los Angeles, CA who recently was featured on Alert The Globe. Alerttheglobe.com is a Live Streaming Concert Series website that presented “Lady Zep”, live from the Coach House stage for a special event. The legendary Coach House in San Juan Capistrano is not open to the public due to the pandemic, however ATG has worked out a deal to broadcast and record live shows from the Coach House stage. You can tune into alerttheglobe.com for free to view the taping of this world-wide live stream of Lady Zep. Even though these live streams are performed in an empty venue with the live audience only consisting of the crew, the live show essence is captured and shared around the world and for free! There is a virtual tip jar scrolling constantly across the screen during the show that makes it easy to send the band a monetary gift. So buy these ladies a drink or send them money for rent, they won’t mind. Every bit helps to keep these musicians afloat during these stormy times.
The Band features Melissa Jane on Vocals, Leanne Lagoyda on drums, Lex Wolf on bass and Marija Krstic on guitar together to play the eternal heavy jams of one of the greatest bands ever. The show was fun to watch and the band cranked out 90 minutes worth of entertainment. These lady’s have their act together with all of them dedicated to their instruments of choice. They all stood out as talented musicians and came together to present their version of these timeless songs that are so loved.
Vocalist Melissa Jane comes from Melbourne, Australia and now lives in Los Angeles. She’s a triple treat and brings her skills to her live show. She is learning to play the harmonica and she plays it for us in this taping. The harmonic adds more wow factor to her already great live performance. Great stage presence and singing voice, I asked her if she changes the lyrics to fit a female perspective and she says she doesn’t care about gender that it’s all in the attitude. She definitely has a take charge attitude on stage singing the songs as they are, but of course bringing her own uniqueness to it all. She also sings for another band called Final Gravity, who have an album in the can called “ Surviving Humanity” The album was written long before 2020 but the name is timely. She describes Final Gravity as progressive rock along the lines of Dream Theatre and Rush. It’s technical and emotional. This will be FG’s second album, but her first one being that she replaced the previous singer. We at BackStage360 will bring you more on Final Gravity when the time comes.
Melissa Jane and drummer Leanne played together in another Zep project before starting this one. Leanne plays a replicate amber transparent John Bonham drum set and let me tell you, this lady knows how to play it. She’s a hardcore Zep fan and you can tell she’s put the time in to perfect her playing and pulls her weight behind the kit. She did a killer drum solo that really showed how spot on of a Bonham drummer she is. On the guitar is Marija “Maria” Krstic who has been playing the guitar since she was three years old. She also does an amazing job. She was born in Eastern Europe, then not found herself as the song says, Going to California. Raised in California, her first instrument was the ukulele which she received on her first birthday. She has loved Led Zeppelin ever since she was a child and has been playing Zep tunes since she was just seven years old. Her playing speaks for itself and you’ll be able to hear her dedication to her instrument when you watch the live footage. She has her notes down.
This is a line-up of strong professionals and on this night they brought in a guest bassist named Lex Wolfe. This was the first time Lex had played with the band and at the end of the night they asked her if she wanted to join as a permanent member. She said yes, so it’s official. Watching the performance you would never know that they had never played with her before, they hadn’t even ever rehearsed together ever. Lex, however is a huge lover of Zeppelin and even sports a Zep tattoo. Her first instrument was cello at age three, as a teen she switch to bass guitar. She’s quite proficient on her instrument and has stage presence including dreads that she hurls as she moves on stage. She’s a great addition, making this a solid lineup.
Interesting enough, Melissa Jane wasn’t a big Zeppelin fan until she started playing in another Zep project, but now she is. With such as extensive catalog to choose from the band selects songs depending on the show so you never know what songs they’ll play for you when you go.
Her favorite songs to play live are: The Lemon Song and a Whole Lotta Love.
The band has some clever ideas of how to wade thru these times and they plan to launch some special perks on their web page for interested people. They will be doing some behind the scenes footage to show people the process of learning a Zep song and how they break it down. The members will also be offering lessons, mentoring and virtual meet and greets. You can follow the band on social media and on their website https://ladyzep.wixsite.com/all-female-tribute.
Be sure to check out the recording of the livestream recording that will speak for itself to the quality of this professional and unique tribute band.
