Recently we here at Backstage360 were fortunate enough to be able to cover the very first public appearance of MetalABBA. The ABBA tribute band was headlining at a local favorite, Brick by Brick. “The Brick” in San Diego is one of the top historic clubs in SoCal and has hosted the best of the best. Not knowing what to expect from a tribute to Abba Band, I went online to YouTube to see what i could find out about this new band. There wasn’t a lot online to read about them but there was one video of a rehearsal of the band performing Abba’s big hit, “Dancing Queen” which caught my attention. When I first heard it I was amazed at how hard it rocked with the new Metal Edge that this band had added to it. It was an “AbbaMetal” and when we got to the venue to interview the band that night I knew we were in for a great show.
The two female vocalists in the band, Dawn Lindsey and Lucy Thomas, are amazing singers in their own right. The music was arranged by Lead Guitarist and Musical Director, John Huldt and the band performed Abba’s hit songs to perfection. The rest of this amazing band consists of: Andres Yepez, (Guitar) Zack Hall, (Bass) Armand Melnbardis (Keyboards)and Jonas Streffer. (Drums)
Once the band finally hit the stage there was no stopping the talent that was on the stage. They were amazing from the first song. It truly was Metal-Abba. The arrangements that John had crafted were all in the same keys as the original Abba but with a Metal Edge that was infectious. I found myself grooving to it and looking around the club everyone else was too.
We would like to thank the band for inviting us to witness your first gig and of course a special thanks to our friends at Brick by Brick for always being there for all the bands and for us here at Backstage360 you guys rock.
Check out MetalABBA! One amazing tribute to all things Abba.
