What happens when you bring together Ronnie Montrose’s Iconic Music and the people who have played with the man and adored him throughout his career. You get the most talked about show at NAMM 2018, which took place on January 27th 2018 at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. Let the party start! This celebration is properly titled “Montrose Music Remembered All-Star Jamm” and is a concert highlighting Ronnie’s career which will feature his hits from early Montrose, Edgar Winter, Gamma, Instrumental Pieces and more. The incredible all-star studded event will feature musicians from Ronnie’s past and people who were influenced by Montrose’s legendary sound and will be listed below at the end of this article.
The event is being hosted by Eddie Trunk from VH-1’s “That Metal Show.” There were so many musicians switching in and out of their respected positions on stage that I just could not keep track. The event is organized by former Montrose lead singer Keith St John who was with Montrose for the last thirteen years of his life. Montrose was on top of the charts in the 70s when Sammy Hagar was vocalist, with tunes like “Rock Candy”, ”Bad Motor Scooter” and “Rock The Nation”. When St John teamed up with Montrose they continued to entertain until right before Ronnie’s death. It has been almost Six years since Ronnie ended his life after a long battle with cancer and St John wants the guitar great’s legend to continue. Keith St John handles the web site Ronniemontroseremembered.com to help keep Ronnie’s memory alive.
The night had many magical moments, including the appearance of Bernie Marsden (Whitesnake) who played guitar on a few songs with Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake) and Michael Devin (Whitesnake), WoW! One of my highlights of the night was when the band broke into Edgar Winters “Frankenstein” and “Free ride”. The Music was killing it and the talent on stage was unquestionable. I saw James Kottack (Scorpions), Jack Russell (Great White) and Keith St John (Montrose) all singing backup Vocals on the same microphone together. There were many unique and very magical moments on stage.
We did get to talk to Randy Scoles, who did an amazing job on vocals tonight and talks about his future work with Brad Lang (Y & T) and Jeff Watson (Night Ranger). He wanted to say thank you to Leighsa Montrose and Linda and special thanks to Ronnie. Watch our interview with Randy Scoles below:
