The Hard Rock in Times Square was rocking Tuesday night as some of the best guitarists in the world came to celebrate their longtime hero, the great Les Paul for the Les Paul 100th Anniversary Celebration in New York’s Times Square. The highlight; Neal “Vortex” Schon and his band, once they took the stage, the crowd became elevated and mesmerized and from beginning to end, got the biggest response of the evening.
Schon’s band included a quintessential lineup, Neal Schon-Lead Guitar, Nick Moroch-Guitar, Jerry Brooks-Bass, Omar Hakim-Drums and Rachel Z. Hakim-Keyboards. The band played two songs off of the upcoming “Vortex” release. The first song, “NS Vortex” followed by “El Matador,” had the crowd in reverential awe. They ended the set with “The Calling” a flavorful tune off Schon’s previous solo album, “The Calling.”
Along with Neal Schon, the celebratory night also included performances by some of the most esteemed guitarists of our time. Joe Bonamassa, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Johnny A, GE Smith, Warren Haynes and Steve Miller.
At the top of his game, Schon has never been better. The future looks very bright indeed for Mr. Schon and company.
Vortex, the 2-CD instrumental soon-to-be released by Mascot Label Group, comes out June 22 in the UK and June 23 in the US. “Lady M” a song dedicated to Neal’s wife Michaele Schon (The Real Housewives) TV Personality, can be heard athttp://www.premierguitar.com/articles/22657-neal-schon-lady-m-our-love-remains-song-premiere
