Texas rockers opened up the show for Breaking Benjamin and Five Finger Death Punch and were so impressive I immediately went out and bought their new album titled “The Stories We tell Ourselves”.
I’ve seen hundreds of concerts and the Lead Singer for this band was electrifying on stage, which reminded me of AC/DC’s Bon Scott. People around me were talking among themselves and commenting on how great the show is, and they weren’t lying.
I could see the Pit where my Photographer was and it looked like he was having to do quite a bit a work just to get photos of the lead vocalist Jonny Hawkins because he wouldn’t hold still long enough to take photos; it was the same for guitarist Mark Vollelunga, bassist Daniel Oliver and drummer Ben Anderson. So much energy on stage you would think they were powering the massive stage’s equipment by their actions. It was truly an amazing experience.
The entire experience gave me the feeling that I was witnessing a sacrificial ritual to the Rock Gods of yesterday and the band was waiting for the God’s stamp of approval. Watching how the band interacted with the crowd, you can easily see why fans love them. Jonny was up and close many times with the crowd, holding hands and driving the Fans into a frenzy. For the most part, Fans sang along and just became part of the show, which created an exceptional moment in time to be forever treasured by band and audience.
The band looked as though they created some of their own instruments. It was as if they were brought closer to the music by doing so. I know from my youth that when I modified my guitars it gave me the same joy when I played that particular instrument. Jonny was barefoot and shirtless most of the time and was drumming, jumping, climbing anything in his wake. It reminded me of a child on a playground for the very first time. It was very refreshing to see a band that makes you want to be a part of their show.
I can’t wait to see this band again and all I want is Nothing More Live!
