Qello Concerts, with Red Light Management and Concord Music Group, announced today a first-of-its-kind original programming weekly series called Evolution of a Song centered on the mystifying process of songwriting. Each season, cameras will follow a band or artist as they create their next song. From the idea to the finished track, music fans will feel as though they’re in the room as the process unfolds.
“Qello users are music fans that devour our wide collection of music documentaries. They love to see the story behind the album, the artist, the music, the time in history. This is something different. It’s the real-time view into the minds of brilliant artists as they create one song. We’re not only excited to air this new series, but we all can’t wait to watch it,” said Qello Co-founder, Richard Johnson.
The first season of Evolution of a Song launches today with the featured band O.A.R. as they create, what they hope to be the next big hit that they’ll perform on their upcoming tour. (Tour details TBA.)
“The making of an album has been well documented. However, by putting the microscope onto the details of the creation of a song is another form of pressure. O.A.R. is up for the challenge and we are excited to watch the results,” said Bruce Flohr, Manager at Red Light Management.
O.A.R. are no strangers to songwriting with a twenty-year career, eight studio albums, and numerous charting hits including, “Shattered (Turn the Car Around).”
Lead singer, Marc Roberge says, “Growing up, when I’d see my favorite artists like Pearl Jam or Eric Clapton, I was always interested in knowing how they got to that final result. I know they didn’t just wake up in the morning and record it. But I was never let in behind the curtain to see the process. Evolution of a Song is doing exactly that; it’s opening up the floodgates. It’s bringing the cameras into the house, into the demo process, where honestly, it’s not pretty.”
Dan Sell, COO of the Fantasy Label Group at Concord Music Group adds that…”This will be a very important song for O.A.R., as it will serve as the cornerstone for their upcoming release on Vanguard Records. We at the label applaud the band’s courage in allowing this level of documentation, which will truly give their fans a unique perspective and unparalleled access.”
Produced by filmmaker Peter Harding, Evolution of a Song pulls the viewer right into the minds and the daily lives of these artists. From the lead singer’s dad duty to the band’s brotherly love, the viewer is taken along the ride in a way that’s never been seen before.
Peter Harding says, “My intent is to offer a rare look at the creative process. We aren’t showcasing finished, polished songs, rather revealing the challenging road to creating them. It’s the relatable part of creativity, and to me, the most inspiring.”
The first season will air exclusively on Qello Concerts beginning May 10(th) with a new episode each week through June and will be free for anyone to watch. The entire series will then be available on demand as part of the Qello Concerts subscription service ($7.99/month).
