Not many metal bands come out of Eastern Europe but I was able to meet up with one recently. Relicseed metal from Latvia recently toured the US bringing their Metallica inspired music to stages across the nation. In this interview, I talk with Edgars (singer and guitarist) and Nathan (drums). We talk about Latvia, what inspires them to venture the over 5,000 miles from their small country, Latvia to California. Latvia is just under 25,000 square miles while California is a whopping 163,696 square miles.
Relicseed formed in 2004 and have recorded two CD’s. The first one is very unique since it is recorded in Latvian and the second one is called “Slaughter House” and recorded in English. With this release the rising artists were named the Winners of The 14th annual Independent Music Awards (IMAs).
This is a band that is definitely dedicated to performing and playing hard and fast with a sound that is influenced by early Metallica, yet has it very much has its own foreign flavor to it. They have passion and talent and gratitude all important ingredients for making it through the challenges that are presented to independent bands on an international tour.
Edgars who writes, sings and plays guitar for the band is in this business of music for the long haul. He’s has the support of many endorsers including Schetcher Guitars. I recommend all heavy metal fans to check out their music and definitely catch a show when they come your way.
Relicseed has toured Europe, America and shared stages with Caliban, Sabaton, Korpiklaani, Testament to name just a few and even played for His Holiness the Dalai Lama 14th of Tibet. The band is on the road continuing to promoting “Slaughterhouse”.
Along with Relicseed, Sin Circus, Inland Empire’s finest Contortion and Hellsott also contributed to a night of powerful metal at Bar 1650.
The band has released a music video for the single „Serial Leader”.
