About… Brother & Sister (Featuring Melody & Vaylor Trucks)
Vaylor and Melody Trucks, each with their own projects, are coming together to play their family’s music, the music of The Allman Brothers Band while currently taking their place among the finest bands influenced from that era. Besides Melody and Vaylor, Brother and Sister are Eric Sanders (The Yeti Trio, Col. Bruce Hampton), Garrett Dawson (Butch Trucks and the Freight Train, The Bird Tribe), Willis Gore (Bonnie Blue, The Melody Trucks Band), and Matt Stallard (Chris Duarte Group).
“The children of the late Butch Trucks gave so much soul to the Allman tunes they featured on that it was clear they spent their formative years side stage, prepping for the spotlight by heredity, osmosis, and love,” wrote Live For Live Music in an April review of the group’s Suwanee Rising Music Festival performance. “Vaylor and Melody are the two oldest children of Butch Trucks, the late drummer and founder of the Allman Brothers Band. Recreating the sound of their dad’s old band is what Brother and Sister is all about,” writes the Florida Times Union.

Since forming in 2011, Cordovas have matched their richly-layered reflection with a sound that goes straight to the soul. On their latest release Destiny Hotel, the band made a point of intensifying the body-moving power of their music. Destiny Hotel is a work of wild poetry and wide-eyed abandon, set to a glorious collision of folk and country and groove-heavy rock-and-roll. In a major creative milestone for the Tennessee-based band — vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Joe Firstman, keyboardist Sevans Henderson, guitarist/vocalist Lucca Soria and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Toby Weaver — the album harnesses the freewheeling energy of their live show more fully than ever while lifting their songwriting to a whole new level of sophistication.
Recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Rick Parker (Lord Huron, Beck, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club), Destiny Hotel expands on the harmony-soaked roots rock of Cordovas’ 2018 debut That Santa Fe Channel that waspraised by Rolling Stone and NPR Music. Before heading to L.A., Cordovas returned to their second home-base, Todos Santos (artist community in Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula), sketching dozens of songs partly sparked by their voracious reading of authors like mythologist Joseph Campbell, poet/novelist Rainer Maria Rilke, and spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle.
When it came time for the recording sessions, the band methodically eliminated any lyrics they deemed inconsequential. “This is an incredibly important time for artists and mystics and people of all kinds to challenge themselves, to gather strength and kill any stagnancy,” says Firstman. “That way, if someone asks if you can defend what you’re doing, the answer will be a resounding yes.”
