OAKVILLE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Returning for its 46th year, the Robert Mondavi Winery Summer Concert Series has evolved into a wine, food and music event that is the highlight of summer in the Napa Valley. Ticket sales for this highly-anticipated concert series kick off Wednesday, April 1, at 10 a.m. (Pacific). Wine and music aficionados alike will have the opportunity to enjoy such major headliners as Grammy Award-winning artists Lyle Lovett and Melissa Etheridge as well as New Orleans natives Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue and more.
The first performance in the Summer Concert Series opens with a bang on the Fourth of July at the winery, with the return of Robert Mondavi Winery’s spectacular fireworks show and concert. The concerts will continue through the summer with additional performances on July 11, 18, 25 and August 1. (Note: artists for the opening night and July 11 concerts to be announced shortly). In addition to the musical performances, food will be provided this year by Off The Grid, Vintage Sweet Shoppe and Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream.
Headlining the July 18 performance is four-time Grammy Award winner Lyle Lovett. Lovett has broadened the definition of American music with his gift for story-telling. The Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Musician and activist Melissa Etheridge takes the stage on July 25 bringing her unique brand of folk-pop rock that blends confessional songwriting with her signature vocals. Concert-goers will have the opportunity to hear selections from her newest album and musical collaboration, This is ME. Keeping the momentum going, the funk, rock, jazz, hip-hop band Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue will take the stage on August 1, bringing a lively, New Orleans vibe to the Napa Valley.
Proceeds from ticket sales will directly benefit Napa Valley music programs. Over the last 46 years, more than $2 million has been raised to support a number of Napa Valley-based charitable organizations as a result of the Robert Mondavi Winery Summer Concert Series.
What began as a small venture in the arts with ticket prices just under $5, the Robert Mondavi Winery Summer Concert Series is now one of the wine country’s most popular and widely attended concert events. About Robert Mondavi Winery
Founded in 1966 by winemaking pioneer and icon Robert Mondavi, the winery that bears his name is an enduring presence and shining symbol of California’s Napa Valley. The first major winery built in Napa Valley in the three decades following the repeal of Prohibition, Robert Mondavi Winery created the foundation for the modern-day California wine industry. An ardent believer that wines should reflect their origins, Mr. Mondavi charted a winemaking course that is now legendary. Today, Robert Mondavi Winery continues to pursue the fullest expression of the terroir of Napa Valley in wines that are also varietally authentic. At the heart and soul of the Robert Mondavi Winery is the To Kalon Vineyard, a 440-acre parcel of exceptional provenance that contributes to the winery’s Napa Valley, Oakville District, To Kalon vineyard-designated and Reserve wine programs. The site famously includes the five-acre I Block. Planted in 1945, it is believed to be the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyard in the New World.
