The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund is dedicated to support research and education that furthers early detection, prevention and treatment of prostate, colon and stomach cancers. Our philosophy stems from the notion that “Knowledge Equals Power.”
On this partly cloudy day in May, the third annual event took place. For a while we thought we were going to get rained out but the weather held off and the crowd, although a little wet, was in great spirits as the entire artists came out and recreated the music video “WE ARE STARS” to the delight of everyone in attendance. Starting at Glendale Harley Davidson with over 500 bikes for the ride over to Los Encinos State Historic Park where the stage was set up for a rocking concert to benefit this great cause and, to remember the late great Ronnie James Dio. Although RJD has left us his spirit still lingers in us all. The fans turned out in droves to see and hear Ronnie’s old band pay tribute to his legacy and his music. There were performances at this year’s event by Dio’s Disciples, Rough Cutt, Lynch Mob, Steven Adler’s All-Stars and many many more of Ronnie’s friends turned out to pay tribute. Lita Ford as well as Gilby Clark, the cast of SONS OF ANARCHY and EDDIE MONEY also made appearances.
Remember this is a benefit for Cancer which took Ronnie from us but also to remind us all to get checked early and, often. There was an auction held at the event to benefit this great cause hosted by Eddie Trunk to raise money. There were several guitars signed by everyone in attendance included in the auction and even people who couldn’t make it donated things to be auction off. Some of the guitars were sold for thousands of dollars all for this all for this great cause. Each year this benefit gets bigger and bigger. Whatever you do this concert and celebration for Ronnie is a must see for fans and people that want to help us fight cancer.
Over the years since the Foundation was started by Ronnie’s wife Wendy over a million dollars has been raised which all of it was donated 100% money is given to research by Wendy. So next year I expect to see you all out there to have fun and to help us fight this horrible disease.
This was Backstage360 second year covering this event and, we will be there each and, every year to follow. We have all lost friends or family that lost their lives to Cancer so it is close to all our hearts. Come join us next year and bring your friends, you won’t be disjointed. Stay tuned to BackStage360.com for announcements for the event next year .
