Every so often, a band emerges that reminds us why we fell in love with music in the first place. It’s not just about the sound but the energy, and the sense of possibility. Sugar Fix Band, a quintet of supremely talented teens who are putting their own spin on rock music.
If the name sounds familiar, you’re not imagining things. Olivia (Liv) and Ryder Beall, the band’s sister-brother duo, are the children of Chris Beall, a seasoned drummer (Warrant) whose band, Swerve, in 1996 released their Album/Song “Sugar Fix,” the band’s namesake. There’s a beautiful synergy in how their father’s musical journey has come full circle.
A Sleepover Sparks the Band
Like all great origin stories, Sugar Fix Band’s began in an unassuming way—at a sleepover party. Liv with her powerhouse vocals, Emma Marshall, the guitar-shredding social butterfly, Samantha Marshall (Sam), the steady and sharp forensic artist on bass, and Ryder, who grew up drumming along to life’s rhythms, decided to form a band just two years ago. What began as late-night conversations and shared dreams quickly turned into serious rehearsals and performances. Soon, Logan Sonstein, the “Guitar Machine” whose fingers seem permanently glued to his instrument, joined the lineup, completing the group.
“My Roman Empire”: A Declaration of Arrival
Their first single, My Roman Empire, is a rock anthem that refuses to be ignored. When I first heard it during the Murrieta Rocktoberfest which was hosted by DJ Dwight Arnold-IHeart 94.5 while covering Media for both Harbour and NHG Productions, I had one immediate thought: “Hold the Candy Corn—I need to hear more of this!”
The music video, filmed at the picturesque Renzoni Winery in Temecula, CA, is just as powerful. Watching Liv belt out, “I’m not throwing shade if you’re already in the shadows,-what did you expect me to do!” made me want to rebel yell: “I want my MTV!”
Jerry Dixon, (Warrant) a close family friend, played a significant role in the production, helping these young talents hone their sound. It’s no wonder the single is gaining traction on streaming platforms and with fans.
The Musical DNA of Sugar Fix
Each member brings something unique to the mix. Liv’s voice is both commanding with shades of rock legends like Ann Wilson and Stevie Nicks. Ryder’s drumming is tight, a natural result of growing up in a household where rhythm was a way of life. Sam’s basslines are a perfect balance of precision and creativity, while Emma’s guitar work is versatile and full of personality. Logan, the newest member, is the kind of player who can make his guitar sing, scream, or weep—it’s no wonder the instrument feels like oxygen to him.
This diversity of skills and influences is what gives Sugar Fix Band their “eclectic rock vibe,” Their sound pulls from rock, alternative, and a dash of modern pop, creating something that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new.
Balancing the Band and the Books
Despite their growing fame, the members of Sugar Fix Band are still kids at heart. They juggle their music careers with schoolwork. Emma and Sam are sisters, adding another layer of familial connection to the group’s chemistry. Liv and Logan met at school, and the five of them have formed a bond that transcends music—it’s a friendship that drives their creativity and keeps them grounded.
Their families play a crucial role in making it all work. Chris Beall, aside from being a musical mentor, ensures that Ryder stays sharp on the drums, while Jerry Dixon offers invaluable production insights. ALL the parents’ offer support which allows the band to focus on what they do best.
What’s Next for Sugar Fix?
The band is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their debut LP, slated for release later this year. If My Roman Empire is any indication, this album is going to take their already soaring trajectory higher than the Bell Tower at Renzoni Winery. They’ve hinted at a mix of upbeat rockers, introspective ballads, and everything in between, showcasing their growth as artists and as a band.
Why You Should Get Your Fix
There’s something magnetic about Sugar Fix Band. Maybe it’s their youth or their ability to channel it into songs that resonate across generations.
As I write this, I can’t help but think about how they’ve managed to bottle the essence of being a teenager—the uncertainty, the passion, the dreams—and turn it into something timeless. Listening to Sugar Fix Band is like grabbing a sugar cookie and taking that first bite: you’re immediately hooked, and you know you’re going to keep coming back for more.
