Los Angeles Rockers, System Of A Down, released two new tracks in support of victims of war torn Artsakh and Armenia.
Released November 5th, via the bands bandcamp page, https://systemofadown.bandcamp.com/, tracks, “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz”, speak to the need to take a stand against persecution by invading forces. An official video was also released for “Protect the Land”.
Both new songs from System Of A Down are available as digital downloads for a $2.00 min. donation. According to the band, proceeds will be used to provide “crucial and desperately needed aid and basic supplies.” In addition to the music, the band posted lyrics for both songs on the page.
In part, a statement on the groups bandcamp page reads:
“We, as System Of A Down, have just released new music for the first time in 15 years. The time to do this is now, as together, the four of us have something extremely important to say as a unified voice. These two songs, “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz”, both speak of dire and serious acts of aggression perpetrated upon our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia.”
“On September 27, the combined forces of Azerbaijan and Turkey (along with Isis terrorists from Syria) attacked the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh, which we as Armenians call Artsakh. For the following 44 days, civilians young and old were awakened day and night by the frightful sights and sounds of rocket attacks, falling bombs, missiles, drones and terrorist attacks. They had to find sanctuary in makeshift shelters, trying to avoid the fallout of outlawed cluster bombs raining down on their streets and homes, hospitals and places of worship. Their attackers set their forests and endangered wildlife ablaze using white phosphorus, another banned weapon.”
“There is an immediate need for global citizens to urge their respective governments to not only condemn the actions of these crooked dictators, but to also insist world leaders act with urgency to impose sanctions punishing them for their war crimes.”
Political topics are nothing new for System Of A Down. On the bands second studio album, 2001’s Toxicity, System Of A Down sang about prison reform (“Prison Song”). On 2005’s Mesmerize, the bands fourth studio album, Track 1 “B.Y.O.B.” (Bring Your Own Bombs) was cut in response to the Iraq War.
Grammy Award winners System Of A Down are an Armenian-American metal band out of Glendale, California . The band formed in 1994 and released five studio albums between 1998 and 2005.
System Of A Down is best known for its iconic lead singer, Serj Tankian, and hits: “Chop Suey”, “Aerials”,” B.Y.O.B.” and “Mesmerize”. In 2006, System of A Down took home the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance for their song “B.Y.O.B.”
