The Brink are a hard rock band that sprung right out of Sheffield/Cambridge, England. I’ll give you the short story about the The Brink, then we will roll right into their latest album release, Nowhere to Run. The band was playing out, as many bands do, whenever they could, anywhere they could, as often as they could, and they did! Over time The Brink were making their mark on the English hard rock scene, gaining speed and picking up a bit of notoriety along the way (rock n roll 101). They began to notice the tables starting to turn. The booking agents and popular venues’ talent buyers around were ringing the band to not only play for them, but headline. One by one more and more venues were ringing The Brink to headline for them. They were officially climbing those rungs to the music business, and bumping in ranks pretty rapidly.
They eventually caught the attention of world renowned record label, Frontiers Music srl. Frontiers singed the band to be apart of their ‘New Breed division’. This is the division of Frontiers specifically focused on up and coming hard rock and metal bands. The Brink signed a multi-album worldwide record deal, in May 2017. If you are not familiar with Frontiers Music srl, I am certain you are familiar with some of the impressive list of artists they have worked with. I’ll drop names here. I’m just feeling it: Def Leppard, ELO, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Ted Nugent, Warrant, Heart, Blackmore’s Night, Rick Springfield, Glenn Huges, Mr Big, Sammy Hager, and in new light- The Brink, to name a few.
I imagine you are probably picking up what I’m putting down right about now. Since signing with Frontiers, the band has continued to
play out while writing and recording. The band had released 1 E.P. prior to signing and another just after. At that point decided to go big for this next one, and that is what they did. In May of 2019 they released their first full-length album, “Nowhere to Run”. The album boasts 14 tracks. They threw in a bonus track, which is an acoustic version of the tune Save Goodbye (also on this album). It’s a rocking tune both ways, heck the whole dang album is rocking! I’d like to take this time to introduce you to the players:
Line-up:
Tom Quick – Vocals
Lexi Laine – Lead Guitar
Izzy Trixx – Rhythm Guitar
Gaz Connor – Bass
Davide Drake Bocci – Drums
I’m sure you have all heard a zinger or two taking aim at bass players, well, GAZ Conner is 100% zinger proof – no joke (yes, pun intended). A real feel player with so many tasty bass lines woven in an out track after track, so complementary to both lead and rhythm guitars. The drums are sitting in the perfect space throughout the album. The vocals performance by Tom Quick are strong, with authority and conviction. He takes control and demands your attention with power, grit and attitude.
I will share a few thoughts on a few tunes here. There are all solid fist-pumping hard rocking tunes. You will find your self singing along in no time! I had a hard time choosing which ones to focus on. Then it hit me, I literally put the name of each tune on a piece of paper, put them in a baseball cap, mixed them up and pulled out a few. A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. #truestory
Away we go……
Don’t Count Me Out: Has an anthem type vibe but with more elements of today’s rocking music, stylistically speaking, as does the whole album. The vocal arrangements are on point. You’ll want to sing along to this one, again, as you will throughout the record.
Break These Chains: whoa – in your face hookey guitar work form the opening note to the very last. It’s so good. The first time I listened to this track I wasn’t sure if I should go kick someone’s a$s or take a spin class. I’m still unsure, so I’ll just keep playing it.
One Night Only: The title sums up the track nicely. This one here had me a bit confused. I’m not sure if it’s meant to be flattering or offensive, either way, It is a definite a$s shaker!
Fairytale: So metal = I love it. One of the heavier tracks on this record, it’s ripping. Guitar licks galore, strong rhythm section, with the rhythm guitar sitting behind those leads really filling the space. You can hear how the whole band wants to go balls to the walls, and they do! They somehow found a way to get a driving heavy tune without stepping all over each other. Kudos to all involved!
I’m not going to give the cow away, you just had a big tall glass of milk complimentary. I’m keeping a close eye this band. They are currently touring in Europe, and hopefully they make it stateside in the near future. I’d love to see them live.
