Tyketto “Reach”

tyketto-reach-coverAfter five years of relentless touring that included playing on some of the most prestigious stages on the planet, Tyketto took their revitalized energy in to the studio in the spring of 2016. The sessions took place at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales.

Lead vocalist Danny Vaughn comments, “Although we only had planned on recording ten songs for REACH, we were so pleased with everything, we decided to keep all twelve songs on the record. We unanimously decided on REACH as the title of the album, as it defines who this band is in 2016. We have a new energy, some incredible new members, and a fresh outlook toward the future. All of us have pushed each other beyond our limits to make what we feel is a pinnacle record in our catalog.” Drummer and founding member Michael Clayton Arbeeny adds, “Many bands who have been out as long as we have feel they need to fit into a preconceived notion of what their fans expect to hear. Following in the footsteps of icons such as Queen, Led Zeppelin, and Prince, we have decided to expand our musical boundaries and introduce our friends around the world to Tyketto 2016. Rest assured that all the songs on REACH still carry the trademark melodies and the choruses our fans have grown to love over the decades. The band is feeling stronger and performing better than ever and we can’t wait to share this music with the world.” In addition to Vaughn and Arbeeny, the unstoppable 2016 lineup includes Chris Green (guitars and vocals), Ged Rylands (keyboards and vocals) and Chris Childs (bass).

LISTEN TO A SAMPLE OF “REACH”

The band members claim to have new energy, and that Reach has revitalized them as a band and musicians. My familiarity with Tyketto prior to this release was mostly from “Forever Young” and the other songs that their debut produced back in the early 90s. That said, after having given Reach a listen, I can say that I am a fan of the new release, and will likely be going back to rediscover the band’s other more obscure content from over the years. You will be pleased to know that the guys are still going strong.

There are a number of strong tracks to be found on the new release, which runs the range from acoustic to keyboard intensive melodic rock. Vaughn’s vocals are stellar on every track. First song to grab my attention is the opening riff of “Big Money” with a very Sammy Hagar sounding vocal on the chorus.  Then songs like “Kick like a Mule”, “I need it Now” and “Tearing down the Sky” continue to showcase the very melodic sounding rock album. The song “Sparks will Fly” had a very cool intro and outro and the final song “The Run” was a great choice to end the album, because of the cool Acoustic Intro and some nice electric guitar and note choices during the solo.  Even if you have never given a Tyketto album a listen in the past, this would be a fine place to start, largely thanks to the strong assortment of tracks.

If you like melodic hard rock, Reach is an album that will not fail to please. This one is well worth adding to your collection.
