Yippie Fest returns August 17-19, 2018 for its second annual celebration of theatre, comedy, music, short film, and more. The festivities span three days on two stages at Prop Thtr, 3502 N. Elston Ave, Chicago.
This year, more than 90 acts will perform, including award-winning musician/song-writer Mike Felten, BBC-featured comedian Sam Rhodes, and the critically-acclaimed fire-eating spectacular Freakshow & Tell.
Yippie Fest joined the Chicago fringe scene in 2017, borne of a collaboration of artists whose passion drove them to carry on the spirit of the beloved cult classic Abbie Hoffman Died for Our Sins theatre festival (1989-2016). This year’s fest also celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Chicago Democratic Convention. Politics, music, performance and humor fueled the original Yippie counterculture. Today’s Yippie Fest is a joyful celebration of that spirit.
“What does Yippie! mean? Energy — fun — fierceness — exclamation point.” —Abbie Hoffman
